27 June 2018 -Ooh-la-la!
This summer has been marvellous so far and I am making the most of it; living in a caravan for a couple of months ensures that most of my time is spent outside as I love the big open space and warmth of the sun on my skin!
As some of my readers know, I live a pretty busy life – I’ll blog a typical day sometime soon – so on the odd occasion that I have a couple of hours of free time, I have been making the most of topping up my ‘boaters tan’!
One day last week I found myself free of ‘tasks’ between 1pm and 3pm. Taking advantage of this I popped on my bikini (after all, not many of our family and friends knew where we were, so there was very little chance that anyone would see me) and lay out in the sun. After around half an hour or so I heard the sound of a car approaching. Looking up through my sunglasses I noticed the car was heading straight for me (slowly, so I didn’t panic!!).
I shouted to my O.H. ‘Do you recognise that car, are they coming here?’, thinking he may have arranged for someone to pop in (caravan engineer or similar). He glanced over and muttered, ‘Don’t think so’.
As the car drew to a halt, a very good friend of ours jumped out (R was in one of his company vehicles hence us not recognising him immediately), laughing, ‘Ah! I caught you in your bikini. What a life you lead!’
I wasn’t exactly mortified, but I did have an ‘Ooh-la-la’ moment and shouted, ‘Tom – grab me a dress, please.’
We all laughed at my embarrassment and mulled over ‘lifestyles’ – R is still working (super-hard actually, as he has his own successful business). I think he had a moment of lifestyle envy. I don’t blame him as I remember only too well, when, five years ago, I was working super-hard and couldn’t have imagined spending five years travelling around Europe in a caravan – and then in a narrow-boat exploring the U.K.
All I know is, you have to do what makes you happy. But…now and then review what you are doing, and be brave enough to change it if you’ve outgrown your ‘happiness’.
