Just the job!
Last week my O.H. and I were able to take a much-needed two day break. We don’t often get away due to the responsibility of owning a ‘separation-anxiety-suffering’ dog; Martha (of Travels with Martha) is 13 now and can never be left without a human…not for even 20 minutes as she would howl. It’s not just the nuisance factor but is pitiful to see, hence the break was ‘just the job’.
We spent the time in London: renting an apartment in Spitalfields provided us with a super location for restaurants, a comfy bed, great shower, good views and rather large living area in which to chill out in the little time we spent in the apartment.
Bizarrely, when I sent some photos of the view from the living area my daughter messaged me saying, ‘That’s my office!’
I knew her office was in London but had no idea it was in Spitalfields, so to be located opposite was a real coincidence; she was working away in Bermuda, so we could hardly meet up!!
The day before we went to London I managed to purchase two last-minute tickets for ‘Opera Undone’ at Trafalgar Studios which was just around the corner from where I worked in Whitehall back in the day!
I can thoroughly recommend this show: sung in English, with the storyline being set in the present-day, it was entertaining and quite fun too. The operas were La Boheme and Tosca. If you are a bit of a last-minute person (like me) check out TodayTix – great prices – which is where I found the tickets.
As I write I’ve just returned from a walk with Martha – it is really, really cold out there. Instead of getting in and making myself a coffee or hot chocolate I made myself (and my O.H. who is upstairs coughing away like billy-o) a hot ginger.
I love anything ginger (biscuits, carrot and ginger soup, stem ginger, chocolate, etc) and only came across this wonderfully warming cordial a few weeks back; I am hooked!
On a cold day like today a hot ginger cordial really is just the job and, seeing as my O.H. likes it too, it really isn’t Just a Girl Thing!
