Day 2 Curfew – Wednesday 25 March.
I started off with a lazy hour; a bit of easy writing, making traditional porridge for breakfast and a few text conversations with some running buddies. After a quick shower my O.H. and I decided to take Martha (our Parson Russell Terrier) for a longish walk.
Picking up a magazine for my aunt who lives alone we popped it through her door – she is self-isolating – but a couple of minutes later we spotted her out for her daily walk too, so had a quick conversation on opposite sides of the road. She is clearly looking after herself and told us that since she began her daily walks last week she is already finding it easier (she is 92 years young) and getting fitter: there is a lesson to us all there.
Once home Tom and I had a cup of coffee and chatted for about 15 minutes before he disappeared into the office to do some paperwork, and I changed into my Pilates gear to record a 30 minute ‘Pilates for beginners’ video for friends (I promised to do this as soon as I heard the news about the curfew).
After watching the video back I had to laugh at myself – my tummy has always been rather podgy but on the video, where I run through some breathing excercises, it looks HUGE! I may call my sessions ‘Leigh’s Big Tummy Pilates’ – catchy eh? Perhaps not.
Tom made lunch, we ate together, sat and chatted whilst our food went down then he went back up to the office to work out how best to share the video as it is too large for WhatsApp and messenger so will need to go via email, YouTube or Google-something-or-other. I am so not technical!
I decided to do some more work in the garden this afternoon. Believe me, there is enough to keep me busy for the next few weeks out there. Digging up some of the many primulas in the front garden I relocated them to what was a scruffy little area in the back garden. I was pretty pleased with my work even if it did take me three times as long as I had anticipated.
Around 3.30pm I decided to go for a short run (just less than 5k). I live in a lovely village where we are surrounded by country lanes which make for a very picturesque run.
A quick shower and change of clothes meant I could grab an hour on the decking of the summer-house to read up on, “Principles of exercise, fitness and health”, as I failed a recent test on this, so need to retake it. Boo!
By 5pm I decided it was time to prepare dinner – a sort-of-shepherds-pie was my creation: minced beef, chopped onion, cubed swede, chunks of carrot, sliced mushrooms, chunks of courgette and a dash of Worcester Sauce topped with mashed potatoe and served with spring greens – scrummy!
So that’s day 2 done – once I have finished writing it’ll be around 9pm so time for a quick episode or two of ‘Safe’ on Netflix.
Bizarrely, just as I was about to cease writing I received a video call on my i-pad from one of my cousins; within seconds several cousins, second cousins, an aunt, my mum, my daughter, two nieces and one of my sisters were on the call too.
What fun…in the words of Cindy Lauper, ‘Girls just wanna have fun’, and that really is ‘Just a Girl Thing’.
