A flight to Strasbourg…or not?
Yesterday, on my way to Birmingham airport my sister, Pam, sent me a text. ‘Have a good flight and hope you’re not delayed’. As soon as I read this I thought, ‘Noooo, that could well be an omen’. It was.
For those who know me and read my blogs or see my posts on Social Media you will know that many of the flights I take are delayed. Heaven knows why…they just are, and I was.
Because there are no direct flights to Strasbourg from Birmingham (or many UK airports) I was flying via Amsterdam. Although the B’ham to the Dam flight was only delayed 20 minutes it meant that all of us on the flight missed our connection.
To cut a long story short we were sent to The Park Inn hotel on the airport complex and were told we had been booked on the 0850hrs flight today – meaning my anticipated lie-in in my room in Strasbourg had morphed into a get-up-at-0530 morning in Amsterdam. Boo. There is a positive to this. The super-friendly customer-oriented receptionist/bartender at The Park Inn supplied me with ice-cream and a Bombay Sapphire G&T last night – my choices in case you think something savoury might have been more suitable!
Then, this morning I had the delight of waltzing through Schipol Airport; not only are there plenty of staff (meaning security works efficiently and quickly) but they are very polite too – other airports take note!!
In addition the array of shops are pretty superb. Beautifully presented products, wonderful window displays and pretty good prices could have tempted me to part with some cash but I resisted. O.H. Tom, take note please!
One of my running buddies, S, had text me last night to ask if I can recommend places to visit in Amsterdam – I will be sending her Martha’s blog (Travels with Martha) from when we had a few days here.
To be honest, if you are flying in I would recommend spending a good few hours at the airport which is surely one of the best shop-and-facility-wise airports around! See pics below.
P.S. I am (re)naming some of the culprits who cause me stress and result in me dreading flying:
