It’s a Girl Thing – 13 June 2018.
I’m having a quiet day; no pressure to be anywhere in particular, at any particular time. As my O.H.said, ‘That’s unusual for you’.
For once, I agree with him.
So, how did this come about? A week or so ago, one of my aunts rang to say while she was away on holiday would I like to have the run of her house, in Henley-in-Arden. Now, because I have spent 99.9% of the last five years living in either a caravan or boat, I eagerly accepted her offer. Thus, here I am, sitting in her pretty garden with no firm plans for the day.
I may take a stroll down to the High Street in a while (I know of a rather nice boutique with a rather nice dress in the window…sshhh) or I may just read my latest ‘vintage book’ which is ‘The Day of the Triffids’ – sent to me by a book club I subscribe to. You have no idea of the books you will be sent, so it’s rather like receiving a surprise birthday gift each month.
Although the O.H.and I have decided we will going walk into Henley for dinner this evening, the freedom of having no set agenda is very appealing! Thanks, Auntie Gill, for your generous and thoughtful gift.
Talking of freedom, one of my g.daughters – Katie-Cakes – made me laugh yesterday. After collecting her from school we were in the car, windows wide open, wind blowing on our faces, hair whirling around our heads.
She said to me, ‘I love being three Nonna’.
I replied, ‘What do you mean, surely you’re six, dozy-Dora?’
She replied, ‘No, three like a wild animal. Because I’ve lost two teeth I can’t say it properly’.
I laughed, realising she was experiencing the wonderful feeling of freedom, when the wind blows on your face, when you have nothing in particular to think or worry about, when life is just life.
I have exactly the same feeling when I am out in the elements:
wind, sun, rain, snow
When you really, really, feel the effects of these on your skin there really is no feeling like it! Freedom is ace…or is it threedom?!
Hugs
Leigh xx
