Sassy soaps and party frocks!
Soap is rather topical just now; being a child of the 50/60’s ‘proper soap’ is no stranger to me and I have to admit I love the feel and smell of a luxurious bar of soap when I bathe; lathering it up just feels right somehow.
Shower gels and creams are O.K. – but nothing feels as indulgent as a lovely, lathering bar of soap so I thought I would share a few of my favourites.
Currently in use is a L’occitane ‘Rose’ scented soap. I love to inhale the fragrance; quite subtle, but you definitely identify the fragrance as you use it.
Luckily, my O.H doesn’t like the fragrance of rose so he appears to be using a non-fragranced bar of ‘Simple’ soap which I have always loved for being just that…pure, non-fragranced and simple!
- Other favourites are a handmade soap with goats-milk, purchased in France when we were travelling Europe a few years back. (You can purchase a similar soap which is made in Yorkshire – see pic).
‘Pear’s’ – I love the way the bar is almost transparent.
And good old ‘Imperial Leather’ for the shape!!
During the current ‘challenge’ we are facing globally, I am thinking of picking up a bar of ‘Cidal’ or ‘Wrights Coal Tar’, just because they remind me of past times.
I also believe bars of soap are more effective than anti-bacterial hand-gels: they do have their place in ‘Gardner’s toilets’ – when there is no wash-basin – and in cars for when you have little passengers.
Moving on, I do love a nice frock – always have and always will, albeit I am often found in jeans (winter) or shorts (summer). Having a party on the horizon I decided a new frock was needed.
When on a rare shopping-day in Birmingham a couple of weeks back, I just couldn’t find what I was looking for, so when I spotted an ad on FaceBook last week (for a website called ‘SilkFred’ – LOVE the play on words) I decided to order a few frocks.
Out of the four I liked best, three were no good – one too small (ouch), one just felt wrong, and one is simply not my colour…but the fourth is exactly what I was looking for.
Clashing patterns and a multiple of colours I just love it – it’s a real extrovert of a dress.
Now, the party is postponed but I am keeping the dress anyway – if I have to wear it to float around the garden during ‘self-isolation/curfew/lockdown’ (if that happens) I will.
I am tempted to order the next size up in the dress that was too small – as I love that too.
Sumptuous soaps and fabulous frocks – the really are Just a Girl Thing!
