Fun and Fabulous FaceBook Friends!
Wednesday 12 July 2017
As I write, I am actually at a wedding – toasting the happy couple with a mug of black coffee. An Aperol Spritzer will be the order of the day for my ‘evening toast’.
Dressed in my scruffy boating-jeans, hair pulled up into a top-knot, and wearing no make-up, this is not my usual wedding attire. On the wedding photographs I will be seen wearing a pair of crazy ‘Dame Edna’ Christmas sunglasses.
By now, you are probably nodding and muttering to yourself (or to whoever is nearest to you) ‘She’s definitely lost it’.
I haven’t.
I am a virtual guest at this wedding, along with a few hundred other ‘Archers Appreciation’ Facebook page members. Yesterday, the couple getting married invited the whole crazy Facebook group to celebrate their wedding – as virtual guests. What fun?
Here is the official invitation:
Right, wonderful AA people – it’s time to grab your best hats or trawl Google for theirs!
Samuel and Annette request the pleasure of your company any time from now to celebrate our wedding (Wednesday, 12pm) in a style only AA people can, with a pic of you in your best headgear or a random hat from t’internet. The pics will be put together, printed out and framed as a memento of our big day and your many contributions towards it.
Particular thanks to those who helped with dress ideas and feedback, and music suggestions. Every piece being played tomorrow was suggested by an AA member, so thank you! (see first comment for list of tracks, if you’re interested!).
We love you all and hope you can join us on our big day xx
Being a lover of weddings I decided to get involved. I sent a photo to the group post last night and set a reminder for 12 midday today, so that I could toast the happy couple and post ‘Congratulations’ in a timely manner. I just love the way Annette and Samuel have involved their Facebook friends in their wedding.
Now, I am sure they’ll have some ‘live’ guests at the wedding to celebrate with them, but we (their AA Facebook friends) started celebrating well before the big day. Choices of music were shared, photos of us in ‘wedding hats’ were posted and various outrageous wedding outfits were shared.
All pictures will be printed off and collated so that the beautiful bride and gorgeous groom have a (rather unusual, but fun) memory of the virtual wedding guests.
Happy, Happy, Wedding day both, and have a wonderful life together.
I awoke early this morning (6am) thanks (?) to another wonderful Facebook group that I’m a member of!
Yesterday evening I spotted a post mentioning a ‘Travel Writing competition’ and it grabbed me by the…
As you may, or may not, know, I’ve travelled extensively – particularly so over the last 4 years whilst continuously adventuring around Europe and the U.K.
I have blogged most days of each adventure. My book ‘Travels with Martha’ is the more polished, edited version of the blogs.
With this in mind, I spent time last night trawling back through the unpublished blogs, adding, deleting, editing, then updating, a post about one of my favourite places in Slovenia.
This led to me tossing and turning for most of the night, until just before 6-o-clock I knew that I wanted to enter the competition; I simply had to get up, rewrite, post to a trusted Facebook friend (Cinnomen Matthews McGuigan, who heads up a Writing Group) for feedback, and submit – before I had time to decide that the piece wasn’t ‘what they are looking for’.
Note: most writers convince themselves that their writing is not good enough/not what people want to read etc. etc. I am no exception!
Cinnomen gave me some super feedback which boosted my confidence – whether I get placed or not in the competition, I now have ‘the bug’ and will be entering other competitions. She doesn’t know this but…I’ve steered away from competitions up till now, so a big ‘Thankyou Cin’ to a fabulous Facebook friend!
