My guilty secret and wearing a (luxurious) dressing gown as a maxi coat!
Many years ago I used to pop out in my PJ’s. There, I’ve said it. Way before slummy-mummies, and so-called celebs, were seen out in their nightwear I would pop a coat over my jama’s, then put boots or shoes on my feet (never go out in slippers folks as that really is a no-no) and drive to my sister, Pam’s, or to the shop for chocolate!
I haven’t done so for around 30 plus years but I have an inkling I might just do something similar soon. Why? Read on…
For a while I have been searching for a lightweight dressing gown. I yearn for a maxi-length kimono but can’t find one that doesn’t drown me or make me look huge; at five-feet-nothing you have to pick your clothes carefully.
Shopping with my sisters, Pam and Jackie, a few months back I came across some cotton and some silk dressing gowns – which were lovely but the colours made me look washed out.
I was beginning to despair, then, at a family Christening where my cousin Kim wore a beautiful lightweight kimono-style jacket (she does have a certain style, does Kim), I discovered the ‘One Hundred Stars’ label and was hooked. Kim wore the beautifully delicate ‘Valerie Paris Map Kimono’ which suits her colouring down to the ground.
Last week I met my sister, Pam, for coffee at ‘Hillers’ in Dunnington Heath. Hillers is an upmarket farm shop/garden centre/coffee shop/gift shop and a whole lot more.
Browsing in the gift shop I spotted some kimonos, throw-overs, and gowns by ‘One Hundred Stars’. Unfortunately the colours were just not strong enough for me so I came away empty-handed.
Yesterday I popped into Alcester (a market town near my home) to purchase a new sports bra from a super little independant shop, ‘Linda Rose Lingerie’.
Whilst there I spotted (you guessed) some gowns by ‘One Hundred Stars’ – I was starting to think ‘One Hundred Stars’ were stalking me or vice-versa.
Low and behold one of the gowns took in my favourite colours of mustard and forest-green. Called the ‘Moorish Mustard Gown’ I tried it on and loved it; according to the sales assistant (and my cousin Kim) you can wear these gowns as dressing gowns AND as a long jacket/coat so you might just see me out and about in my new dressing gown…just like in the old days!
Of course, I will see to my hair and make-up, add some skinny jeans, a cami-top and heels: I will most likely be out with friends or on my own as my OH has already said, ‘Good grief – just make sure you wear it when you are not with me’. The cheek of the man!
Hugs
Leigh
PS Would you dare to wear this as a going-out maxi coat? Would love your opinion…
