1 July 2018 – Naked!
So there I was, sitting on a nudist beach when all of a sudden I felt someone throw water over my legs; as the water reached my hips I realised a huge wave had crept silently up the beach, engulfing my towel, my daughters towel and our lower bodies.
Now, you might wonder what we were doing on a nudist beach – and perhaps thinking – ‘Leigh, this is too much information’, so read on…
Enjoying a long weekend with my lovely daughter in Sitges, Spain, yesterday afternoon, Cleo and I ‘did’ Barcelona. We walked for miles, taking in Las Ramblas, some of Gaudi’s architecture, the outside of the Gothic Cathedral and a rather lovely square before going for dinner at 8.30pm.
We ate at an authentically Spanish restaurant, recommended by the lovely Paul Francis – photographer extraordinaire – where, rather uniquely, you had to walk right through the middle of the kitchen to reach your table. However, the food was divine and I would definitely recommend a visit to Los Caracoles.
Arriving home around midnight we both decided a quieter, less energetic day would be a great idea for today.
After a late-ish breakfast we wandered down the narrow, white-walled streets of Sitges. Noting the lack of towel-room on the main beach we decided to amble on to a more secluded beach, just beyond a pretty Church (Iglesia de Sant Bartomeu I Santa Tecla). This baroque style church dates back to pre-14th century and is in the same vicinity of the Bacardi Museum – the relevance of which is that Cleo works for Bacardi. According to her the founder of Bacardi was from Sitges, hence this little museum.
On reaching a more secluded beach we discussed where, between the bronzed bodies of those already there, would be best to sit…as it appeared that the tide was still coming in. Whilst doing so – and also deciding which rocks would be easier to navigate for our descent – Cleo said, ‘I think this is a nudist beach.’
‘Oh’, said I, ‘Well I’m not bothered if you’re not! Once you’ve seen one male (or female) bare body you’ve seen them all…and I am certainly not going to be looking. I can just close my eyes or read’.
Thus, we ended up on the nudist beach; a first for me, however neither of us bared all. I just don’t feel the need to have a bronzed bottom and I guess Cleo felt the same!
Hugs
Leigh
P.S. We were not the only people ‘dressed’. There was a mix of swimwear and non-swimwear sunbathers; I did feel a little envious of those who felt confident enough to simply bare all – it must be quite freeing to embrace the waves wearing only your birthday suit! ?
