I popped into the nearby town of Solihull yesterday to pick up some sandals I had ordered from Zara: I also wanted to visit my favourite lingerie store – Bravissimo.
Whilst walking through the shopping centre (Touchwood) I noticed many changes; some shops had disappeared but at least new ones had taken their spot so the centre must still be a thriving town centre (unlike many towns just now).
Zara has a prominent corner spot opposite Bravissimo…or so it used to be. I took a sharp intake of breath when I saw another retailer in Bravissimo’s spot. Disappointed doesn’t express how I felt. I wanted to replace a couple of bra’s and the choice of bra’s they stock are excellent. I have never bought an off-the-shelf-bra that some of my smaller breasted buddies get away with and department-store lingerie departments just don’t evoke the same feeling as shopping at a specialist lingerie store.
Picking up my order from Zara I was served (and I mean served) by a wonderful woman who excelled in ‘customer care’ called Lydia. On seeing that the size 37 sandals were at least an inch too long she asked another member of staff to find me a size 36 (she had checked stock and could see there were some in store).
Whilst waiting for the sandals to be found I observed Lydia serving an older lady, seeking out a couple of sizes in the jacket the customer was after, then advising her on other colours and the fit of the jacket. This is customer care/service like it used to be in the ‘good old days’, so I have written to Zara about Lydia as she deserves recognition. Lydia also informed me that Bravissimo have moved to a slightly smaller unit and pointed me in the direction of the shop. Alleluia!
On entering Bravissimo I explained to the lady at the till that I would like a fitting (my body shape/size appears to change frequently) so I could be one size or another. She despatched a young fitter called Charlie. She was simply marvellous – fitting each bra individually and explaining that the piece between the breasts need to lie flat, there should be no bulges or puckering of the bra etc, etc.
I have always found Bravissimo to employ good fitters but this young woman was possibly the best fitter I have encountered in the last 5 years. Charlie really took an interest in me and also told me which clothes shops were ‘best for bargains’ just now – she has been doing her holiday shopping.
Her attitude, professionalism, friendliness and ‘recommendations’ resulted in my buying 3 bra’s and a pair of knickers. To me, that is exactly the result a good salesperson achieves: no pushing, just getting to know your customers needs and offering merchandise until they say ‘No’.
I truly don’t go shopping frequently, due to wanting less ‘stuff’, but yesterday proved to be a wonderful shopping experience thanks to Lydia and Charlie.
Pretty lingerie and summer sandals, now that definitely is ‘Just a Girl Thing’.
PS the 2 pairs of knickers on the far left and far right don’t quite match but were a bargain from M & S!
